Eating protein-rich foods to lose weight

Many diets advise eating more protein. Eating more protein generally does not lead to weight loss, but it does result in a reduction in body fat percentage. This is not only because fewer sugars are consumed, but, as various researchers believe, because the intake of L-histidine is increased. Histidine is an amino acid, a building block of a protein.

L-histidine

The explanation below comes from ergogenics.org

How does histidine work?
Histidine supplementation increased insulin sensitivity [HOMA-IR decreased] and lowered the concentration of the inflammatory proteins TNF-alpha and interleukin-6 in the blood. Inflammatory proteins inhibit the action of insulin.

Simultaneously, histidine supplementation increased the release of adiponectin by fat cells. Adiponectin is a signaling protein that enhances the action of insulin. Improved insulin metabolism leads to a reduction in body fat percentage.

Eat more protein or supplement?

Eating more protein automatically results in an increased intake of L-histidine. The following sources contain relatively more histidine and can be added to your diet:

Poultry, fish, rice and oatmeal, seafood, beans, eggs, mushrooms, bananas, cantaloupe and citrus fruits.

However, would you like to be sure of an increased intake? We recommend purchasing a jar of essential amino acids. You use 2 scoops per day. This way, you are certain that you are getting enough L-histidine and other amino acids that you also need to obtain from your diet.
