SSRIs or psychedelics for depression, anxiety, or stress?

A new clinical study is currently investigating whether natural psychedelics such as psilocybin work better for depression, anxiety, and stress than SSRIs. To be honest, we actually already know what the outcome is.

The image shows a comparison of serotonergic functioning focused on the effects of postsynaptic 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A signaling (the serotonin receptors). The more pronounced effects of chronically used SSRIs on postsynaptic 5-HT1AR signaling have been hypothesized to relate to their anti-stress and pro-coping properties, but also to their tendency towards moderate or 'blunted' emotional reactivity. The direct 5-HT2AR agonist properties of psychedelics are hypothesized to relate to their tendency to increase environmental sensitivity and to promote emotional liberation which, in combination with psychological support, is believed to be therapeutically powerful.

An enlightening video

This YouTube video explained what psychedelic therapy can do for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and stress.

More than just psychedelic therapy

The above story only concerns what we do during a psychedelic session. However, there is even more benefit to be gained from a psychedelic trip. The preparation for the trip is far more important than one might expect.

We believe that a healthy body provides a healthy foundation for mental health as well. We therefore do everything we can to address all facets of existence, which is why we advise our clients on nutrition, exercise, and supplements. This holistic approach to body and mind ensures the best results in the short and long term. Generally, for most clients, we use a schedule that looks as follows:

  1. Registration, neurotransmitter test and intake
  2. Advice on nutrition exercise and supplements based on point 1
  3. A period of 2-3 weeks of progress reviewing point 2
  4. An individual psychedelic ceremony (unless a group offers additional benefit or preference)
  5. Review of the truffle ceremony on the same day
  6. After about 1-2 weeks, another follow-up discussion

Hey man. Awesome post you have there. I believe in the power of psychedelics when it comes to treating stress or anxiety. I've been wanting to try Ayahuasca to cure my depression as I have read that it can actually help relieve stress. What do you say about this?

@dwilliams

Hi,

Ayahuasca is not our preference and besides that it's illegal here in the Netherlands. We think psilocybin or psiloflora works better against depression than ayahuasca.

Thanks for the immediate response Marcel, appreciate it. I see your point. I might consider psilocybin as an option as well.
