What do you think is better? An ayahuasca ceremony or a trip session with truffles?

Both ayahuasca ceremonies and truffle trip sessions have their own unique characteristics and benefits. Which is best depends on your personal preferences, goals, and circumstances. Here are some considerations to help you make a choice:

1. Active ingredientsAyahuasca contains the active substance DMT, while truffles contain the active substance psilocybin. Although both substances have similar effects, the experience can differ somewhat. Generally, ayahuasca is dosed higher and the effects often last longer.

2. SettingAyahuasca is often used in shamanistic and spiritual ceremonies

3. PreparationAyahuasca has more contraindications, and a special diet must be followed to prevent interactions with, for example, tyramine. Truffles are relatively safer to use.

4. Law: In the Netherlands, ayahuasca is illegal and truffles are legal.

At Triptherapie, we have a strong preference for truffles (psilocybin). This is due to their legal status; it is a safer substance, and according to various studies, its therapeutic potential is greater.

Although ayahuasca and psilocybin (from truffles) can evoke both deep, spiritual and therapeutic experiences, the choice is between a ayahuasca ceremony and a truffle session or truffle ceremony not only a matter of preference, but also of safety, legality, and quality of guidance.

Why Triptherapie recommends truffles over ayahuasca:

  1. Safety: Truffles contain psilocybin and do not require MAO inhibitors, unlike ayahuasca. MAO inhibitors increase the risk of serious physical side effects and dangerous interactions with food or medication. A truffle session is therefore medically safer to supervise.

  2. Legality: Psilocybin truffles are legal in the Netherlands, whereas ayahuasca (due to the DMT) is prohibited. This means that a truffle session can take place in a professional setting, with a medical intake, insurance, and supervision — instead of in the grey or even illegal atmosphere where ayahuasca often takes place.

  3. Guidance and integration: At Triptherapie, every truffle session is prepared with an extensive intake, tailored to your mental and physical health. In addition, the guidance is provided by trained therapists, including psychologists with RINO training. Integration is an essential part of the process — something that is often lacking with ayahuasca.

  4. Quality and depth of the experience: Truffles can be just as deep or transformative as ayahuasca. Especially in higher doses, or in a psiloflora ceremony with the addition of passionflower, the experience becomes more intense and spiritual — without the physical strain of ayahuasca.

In short: although ayahuasca is valuable can compared to other options, a professionally guided truffle session or psilocybin ceremony offers more control, safety, and aftercare — and according to Triptherapie, that makes it the better choice.
