Are you allowed to offer therapy with psychedelics?

Yes, it is already possible to offer therapy using psychedelics. Increasing scientific research demonstrates that psychedelic substances such as psilocybin, MDMA, and LSD can have therapeutic benefits for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and addictions. These substances can be used in conjunction with professional guidance to help people explore and process their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. However, it is important to note that offering therapy with psychedelics must comply with certain rules and guidelines, depending on the country in which the therapy is offered. In some countries, psychedelic substances are still illegal, and offering therapy with these substances can be a criminal offense. Therefore, it is important to consult the laws and regulations in the relevant country before offering therapy with psychedelics.

In Australia, psychedelic therapy with MDMA or psilocybin is already permitted as a medical treatment for PTSD and depression. In the Netherlands, therapy with psychedelics is allowed, provided the substances are not listed in the Opium Act. Furthermore, therapy with psychedelics may not yet be performed on medical grounds, whereas psychedelic-assisted aromatherapy, for example, is permitted. Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy cannot yet be used as a term for legal psychedelic sessions in the Netherlands, because approval for this medical application has not yet been granted.

Yes, therapy with psychedelics may be offered in the Netherlands, provided that a number of conditions are met. Psychedelic therapy is still no recognized medical treatment, but permitted within the framework of coaching, guidance, or psychological support — as long as the means used be legal and no medical claims are made.

At Triptherapie, work is done with magic truffles (psilocybin) and legal variants of LSD and MDMA. Truffles are legal because they are not listed in the Opium Act, unlike magic mushrooms. Sessions involving these substances therefore do not fall under prohibited acts, as long as they are voluntary and take place under the supervision of a professional team. This makes legal psychedelic therapy So possible in the Netherlands — certainly when safety and care come first, as with Triptherapie.

Under the law, these sessions are currently still described as forms of coaching, music therapy, aromatherapy or self-examination with support. However, in practice, they are often perceived as therapeutic in terms of content. There are currently no official licenses, However, Triptherapie expects regulation to come around 2025–2026 and therefore plans to apply for formal recognition. Until then, Triptherapie operates through an approved and transparent legal structure.

What distinguishes Triptherapie is the level of professionalism. Two of the psychologists within the team have received additional training through the renowned RINO Institute:

  1. Sascha, a graduate psychologist with a Master's in Clinical Psychology, has extensive experience in mental healthcare, addiction care, and cognitive behavioral therapy. She has received further training at RINO to to work therapeutically with psychedelics.

  2. Reineke, also a psychologist, combines conventional and alternative treatment methods such as talk therapy, yoga, breathwork, and EMDR. She too has completed an accredited training course through RINO focused on psychedelic-assisted therapy.

In addition, is also Ronald, psychosocial therapist, RINO-trained in this specific domain. His background in Voice Dialogue, Jungian therapy, IFS, and psychodrama makes him highly suitable for clients seeking deep inner transformation.

These therapists offer sessions in various forms: from individual truffle sessions to holistic guidance trajectories with an emphasis on integration. Would you like to experience for yourself whether this approach is right for you? Then you can, without obligation, intake form to fill in.
