Can you have a psilocybin session if you regularly use clonazepam?
A Taking a psilocybin session (or LSD) while regularly using clonazepam is not recommended., but it is possible. We strongly advise against it if you intend to use it therapeutically and in-depth. Clonazepam is a powerful benzodiazepine that suppresses the central nervous system and flattens emotions, and this is exactly the opposite of what psilocybin aims to enhance.
Why this combination doesn't work well:
Psilocybin opens up emotions, memories, and deeper layers of consciousness. Clonazepam, on the other hand, dampens those processes. As a result, the intensity of the experience is suppressed, the chance for insight and healing is reduced, and you run the risk of the session feeling “flat” or incoherent. Also the neuroplasticity (The ability of your brain to learn and adapt), for which psilocybin is known, is inhibited by long-term benzodiazepine use.
What is possible, then?
If you use Clonazepam and still have psilocybin session if you want to do this, then it is recommended to:
To taper off safely under the supervision of your doctor (if possible).
To be completely free of Clonazepam for at least 6–10 days for the session (5× the half-life).
To be stable without dependence or withdrawal symptoms.
During the intake for trip therapy You provide information about your medication use. Based on this, our team assesses whether and when a session is safe and beneficial. Alternatively, they can suggest other therapeutic routes or timing.
