[Solved] Psychedelic therapy in the Netherlands

Psychedelic therapy, such as psilocybin and MDMA therapy, is currently not reimbursed by health insurers in the Netherlands. This is because these therapies are not recognized as regular medical treatments and are considered experimental. Health insurers only reimburse treatments that meet scientific standards and practice guidelines, which means there must be sufficient evidence of the treatment's effectiveness.

Although much research is being conducted into the therapeutic applications of psychedelics, such as for treatment-resistant depression or PTSD, the process of recognition and reimbursement is complex. The Dutch Healthcare Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland) assesses whether a treatment qualifies for reimbursement based on cost-effectiveness and scientific evidence. For psychedelics, it is expected that, in combination with supportive therapy, they may potentially become part of a Diagnosis-Treatment Combination (DBC) and thus be reimbursed from the basic health insurance package.

The current expectation is that psychedelic therapies could possibly be recognized and reimbursed by 2027, depending on further research results and policy developments.. Until then, such treatments are only available through private providers or experimental research programs.

Fund for lower incomes

This discount applies only to the rate of the psychedelic group session. Other costs such as travel and accommodation expenses are at your own expense.
