Can the medicine Tizanidine be used together with psilicybin?
Tizanidine is a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms. It works by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. Tizanidine binds to specific receptors in the spinal cord (alpha-2 adrenergic receptors) and reduces the activity of these nerve signals. As a result, the muscles relax and the spasms decrease. Psilocybin acts primarily on serotonin receptors, and therefore there is no direct interaction between psilocybin and Tizanidine. However, no specific research has been conducted into the interaction between Tizanidine and psilocybin, but it appears that they can be safely combined.
With Tizanidine, side effects must be taken into account. Lowering blood pressure caused by Tizanidine can lead to fainting when combined with psilocybin. It is generally assumed that psilocybin can slightly increase blood pressure at the beginning of a trip. The increase in blood pressure caused by psilocybin is usually mild and typically does not cause serious problems. As the psilocybin wears off, blood pressure may return to normal or even be lower than normal. However, it is possible that the lowered blood pressure immediately after the psilocybin session and the following day may lead to fainting or dizziness, especially in combination with Tizanidine.
To prevent fainting and fainting after using psilocybin, one may choose to stop taking Tizanidine 24 hours prior to the psilocybin session. The half-life of Tizanidine varies, but it is generally estimated to be approximately 2 to 4 hours. Therefore, in the case of Tizanidine, it can take about 10 to 20 hours for it to completely disappear from the body.
