How much does MDMA therapy cost and what factors determine the total price?
At Triptherapie, we have until July 1, 2025, in a reasonably inexpensive way MDMA therapy can offer with variants of MDMA that were legal at the time. Unfortunately, these are MDMA analogues have become illegal and we can no longer supply these. However, we can tell you that MDMA sessions were available at the time ranging from 650 to 1,175 euros. The variation lay in the location and the chosen therapist. Currently, MDMA sessions where the client brings their own MDMA still cost that amount. The current costs are therefore slightly higher, because you have to obtain the MDMA yourself and have it tested, which comes to a maximum of 25 euros per session (a high estimate).
The structure outlined above is not a medical treatment, but was permitted under the guise of coaching. Nevertheless, you do get a therapist who helps you with preparation and integration. The costs are reasonable, considering the number of hours the therapist makes available per session. With this structure, the majority of the costs lie in personnel expenses.
The medical MDMA therapy costs
The MDMA therapy of the future will be a medical treatment involving psychotherapy before, during, and after the MDMA session. Because it is becoming a medical treatment, more regulations and staff will be required, driving up the price. It is expected that a single MDMA session, including the entire preparation process and integration, will cost between 5,000 and 10,000 euros. The majority of the costs are again related to staff, as the medical protocol requires nursing care, a psychiatrist to prescribe medication, and often not one, but two psychotherapists involved in the treatment. The MDMA itself will also become more expensive, as it must be supplied via a different process (medical-grade) and will cost approximately 100 euros per session.
In short
Specialized personnel drive up the costs of medical treatments involving psychedelics. Potential reimbursements from health insurers could provide relief, but we must wait to see how this develops.

As soon as something becomes a standard treatment, the costs are driven up so drastically. This may well be partly due to extra regulations, trained personnel, and expensive training, but it is definitely being blown out of proportion. After all, MDMA itself costs almost nothing!
