There are various dosages you can use when applying therapeutically ketamine (analogues). Incidentally, this also applies to other psychedelics such as psilocybin and LSD. The range can lie from microdosing, psycholytic or museum dosing (approximately equal), low macrodosing, medium macrodosing, high macrodosing, and heroic macrodosing.
Microdosing involves the use of a very low amount of ketamine, often sub-perceptually. The goal is subtle improvement of mood, cognitive flexibility, or a reduction in worrying. There are barely noticeable dissociative or hallucinatory effects. Microdosing ketamine has not yet been well researched and is not really recommended due to the potential negative effects on the bladder and urinary tract with chronic use!
This level results in mild dissociation and mildly altered perception, without completely disrupting daily functioning. The user can still hold conversations, express emotions, and work with the therapist. Creativity, introspection, and emotional openness are central. It is sometimes referred to as “museum dosage” because, in principle, one can still walk around or experience art at this dose. With Triptherapie, a psycholytic dosing sometimes used in integration.
The effects are more clearly noticeable: there is a stronger sense of detachment from the body and the environment, with changes in the perception of time and inner focus. Mild visual or auditory distortions may occur, and pain suppression may develop. This level can be used therapeutically to release emotions and break patterns, while maintaining contact with the facilitator.
At a medium dosage, a deep dissociative experience occurs in which the body and the outside world fade into the background. A strong sense of introspection and reliving of memories may arise. Many people experience a mood “reset” at this level, as negative thought patterns are temporarily interrupted. A controlled 'K-hole' can also occur at this dosage. Therapeutic sessions at this level can be profound, with less active communication. This is usually the dosage that is suitable for the average person. ketamine session.
A high dose of ketamine can more easily lead to a so-called “K-hole”: an almost complete disconnection of body and mind. This is accompanied by intense visual and auditory hallucinations, timelessness, and the sensation of leaving one’s own body. At this level, communicative contact is often no longer possible. It can produce powerful spiritual or mystical experiences, but requires very careful guidance and protection of the body by a facilitator.
This level goes beyond the classic high dose and is rarely therapeutically desirable due to the overwhelming and sometimes disorienting effects. Complete ego dissolution occurs, and the experience can feel like a near-death experience with no way back. Its therapeutic utility is very limited, and it carries more risks than necessary. Furthermore, entire sections are forgotten due to blackouts, which does not make it truly helpful.
