Relationship therapy with MDMA
Couples undergoing MDMA sessions as relationship therapy often grow closer than they would without MDMA as a tool. The reason MDMA is used with couples is that it can provide a sense of safety. The self-protective mechanisms that can hinder meaningful conversations and connection may be absent or less strongly present. As a result, the connecting power of love has a better chance than reacting out of fear and self-protection.
Getting closer together can therefore be easier during MDMA sessions, However, the effect can persist even after these sessions. In only a few cases can couples also choose to let go of each other out of love, which is sometimes the best solution as well. It is therefore good not to view MDMA as a cure, but as a kickstarter to truly listen to each other.
