A relationship can be one of the most meaningful parts of life, but relationships can also go through difficult periods. Communication can become complicated, emotional patterns can repeat themselves, intimacy can change, and couples can sometimes find themselves caught in the same conflicts despite genuinely wanting things to improve.

A psychedelic couples therapy retreat offers a very different setting from ordinary relationship counselling. Instead of trying to fit meaningful conversations into an hour between work and everyday responsibilities, a couple can step away from normal life for several days and dedicate uninterrupted time to themselves, their relationship and their personal processes.

Our private 4-day psychedelic couples retreat in the Netherlands is designed around exactly that principle. It combines preparation, experienced psychedelic guidance, relationship-focused work, rest and integration in a completely private setting for two people.

The retreat is not a standardised program in which every couple follows exactly the same psychedelic protocol. Both partners complete an individual intake and suitability assessment beforehand. This makes it possible to look at each person's background, intentions and circumstances and determine whether the retreat is appropriate and how the experience can best be structured.

A retreat designed specifically for couples

A couples retreat is different from simply taking a psychedelic together.

Both partners have their own history, emotions, needs and personal process. At the same time, the relationship itself creates another layer to the experience. There may be questions around communication, trust, intimacy, emotional connection or recurring relationship patterns.

For this reason, our approach leaves room for both individual and shared work.

The two partners participate in the same retreat, but their experiences do not have to be identical. One person may need more individual space, while the other may benefit from more connection and conversation. The preparation and guidance can take these differences into account.

This flexibility is one of the defining characteristics of a private duo experience. Triptherapie describes its duo sessions as a format in which partners can share the setting and experience while still allowing space for each person's own process.

The psychedelic approach is individually determined

There is no single psychedelic substance that is automatically used for every couple.

The retreat begins with an intake and suitability assessment for both participants. The information from these assessments is used to determine whether a psychedelic session is appropriate and how the retreat can best be tailored to the participants' goals, background and preferences.

Our experienced facilitators have extensive experience with different psychedelic approaches, including psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine and LSD. The specific approach is considered after the intake rather than being predetermined simply because the retreat is intended for couples.

This is important because every couple is different. There is no reason to assume that the same substance, intensity or structure is appropriate for everyone.

The emphasis is therefore on careful preparation, appropriate guidance and creating the right conditions for the individual participants.

A private four-day experience

The retreat takes place over four days and three nights. The accommodation is reserved exclusively for the couple, creating a level of privacy that is difficult to achieve in a conventional group retreat.

Day 1: Arrival, welcome and preparation

The first day is about arriving, settling in and creating a comfortable foundation for the retreat.

You have time to explore the accommodation, become familiar with the surroundings and meet your guides. Together, you discuss your intentions for the retreat and what you would like to explore as a couple.

The preparation also provides an opportunity to ask questions and discuss what to expect from the following day.

There is deliberately no pressure to immediately begin intensive work. The first day is about slowing down, leaving everyday routines behind and arriving both physically and mentally.

Day 2: Psychedelic session day

The second day is the central day of the retreat and is dedicated to the guided psychedelic experience.

The day begins calmly, with time to reconnect with your intentions and prepare for the experience. During the session, both partners are supported by experienced guidance.

Depending on the intentions and dynamics of the couple, there may be space to explore connection, communication, emotional patterns, trust, intimacy and relationship dynamics. There is also room for each partner to have their own individual experience.

The session is not about forcing a particular outcome. Psychedelic experiences can be unpredictable and deeply personal, so the emphasis is on creating a supportive environment in which the experience can unfold at its own pace.

After the main experience, there is time to rest and spend time together at the private accommodation.

Day 3: Rest and integration

The third day is intentionally different from the session day.

There is no psychedelic session planned. Instead, the day is dedicated to rest, reflection and integration.

You can sleep, relax, enjoy the surroundings, sit together on the terrace or use the private hot tub. There is no need to immediately return to the pace of everyday life.

Guided integration provides an opportunity to talk about what you experienced and to reflect on what may be meaningful for you individually and as a couple.

Integration is an important part of the retreat because the psychedelic experience itself is not necessarily the end of the process. The following days and weeks can provide an opportunity to reflect on insights, emotions and intentions and decide what you want to take with you into everyday life.

Day 4: Returning to daily life

The fourth day is a gentle transition back to everyday life.

The morning is kept relaxed, allowing time for breakfast, final reflection and some quiet moments together.

Before departure, there is an opportunity for a final conversation with your guides and to discuss any remaining questions about integration and returning home.

You then check out and leave the retreat location, taking the experience back into your normal environment.

A private cottage surrounded by nature

The retreat accommodation is a detached cottage situated on a small island surrounded by water and greenery.

The cottage is exclusively reserved for the couple during the retreat. This means that you do not have to share your accommodation with other participants and can move through the retreat at your own pace.

The cottage has been designed for two people and includes a spacious 200 x 200 cm bed, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy living room with a round wood-burning stove at its centre.

Outside, there is a private terrace overlooking the pond and a private hot tub. This provides a comfortable place to relax, talk, reflect or simply enjoy being together.

The wider grounds have a distinctive oriental and artistic atmosphere, with ponds, mature greenery and Roman-inspired statues throughout the property. The combination of nature, water, privacy and artwork gives the location a character very different from an ordinary hotel or therapy room.

The accommodation becomes part of the retreat itself. It is a place to rest after the session, spend quiet time together and gradually integrate the experience.

Why privacy matters

A private retreat removes many of the distractions that can make it difficult to focus on a relationship.

There are no other retreat participants sharing the accommodation. There is no need to adapt to a group schedule or discuss personal experiences with strangers.

Instead, the couple can spend the four days together in a calm environment, with professional guidance available when needed.

This can be particularly valuable for couples who want to explore their relationship without an audience and who prefer a more personal alternative to a group retreat.

Experienced psychedelic guidance

Triptherapie has an experienced team of psychedelic facilitators and offers both individual and duo sessions, as well as multi-day retreats. The current team includes facilitators with backgrounds in psychology, psychosocial therapy, mental health care and other relevant disciplines.

For duo sessions, one experienced facilitator is generally sufficient, although working with two facilitators can be arranged when additional individual attention or a more relational setup is desired. This is considered on a case-by-case basis.

The role of the facilitator is not to tell a couple what their experience should mean. Instead, the facilitator provides preparation, support during the psychedelic experience and guidance with integration afterwards.

The relationship comes first

One of the principles behind this approach is that relationship work does not necessarily begin by immediately focusing on the relationship itself.

For some couples, it can be more useful to first create space for individual self-exploration. Understanding your own emotions, patterns and needs can change the way you relate to your partner.

Triptherapie's approach to relationship-focused duo sessions therefore distinguishes between the relationship a person has with themselves and the interpersonal relationship between partners. In some cases, a more extensive relationship-focused process may involve more than one psychedelic session.

For this four-day retreat, the structure is designed around one central psychedelic session with preparation and integration surrounding it. The precise focus is adapted to the couple following the intake.

A real couple's experience

One of the most meaningful ways to understand this kind of work is to hear from couples who have actually experienced it.

A couple who worked with Marcel from Triptherapie shared their personal experience after undergoing four psychedelic sessions together. Their story describes a relationship that had experienced significant difficulties despite having previously explored conventional counselling.

They describe how they researched psychedelic approaches before deciding to work with Marcel and specifically mention his calm guidance, experience and professional approach. In their personal account, the psychedelic sessions became an important part of their journey as a couple.

After four sessions, they described experiencing a significant positive change in their marriage.

Their experience is their own and should not be interpreted as a guarantee that another couple will experience the same result. Psychedelic experiences are highly individual, and relationships are complex. Nevertheless, their story offers an interesting first-hand perspective on why some couples choose to explore this approach.

The surroundings: Hillegom and the Dutch Bollenstreek

The retreat is located in Hillegom, in the heart of the Dutch Bollenstreek.

The area is known for its flower fields, greenery and historic towns and is conveniently situated between Amsterdam, Haarlem and Leiden.

The North Sea coast is also nearby, making it possible to combine the retreat with walks along the beach or additional time by the sea.

During the spring flowering season, the region becomes particularly famous for its tulip fields. Keukenhof, one of the Netherlands' best-known flower parks, is located nearby in Lisse.

Amsterdam, Haarlem and Leiden are all accessible from the area, making Hillegom a convenient base for international visitors who want to combine their retreat with time elsewhere in the Netherlands.

Getting to the retreat

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is the nearest international airport and is approximately a 20-minute drive from the retreat location, depending on traffic.

Schiphol has a major railway station directly beneath the airport, providing connections throughout the Netherlands. Hillegom also has its own railway station, with connections towards Haarlem and Leiden. From Hillegom station, the retreat location can be reached by taxi.

The location can also be reached by car from Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden and surrounding areas.

Exact arrival instructions are provided to guests before the retreat.

More than a psychedelic session

The central psychedelic experience is only one part of the retreat.

The real structure is preparation, experience, rest, integration and the transition back to everyday life.

This allows couples to step away from their normal environment for several days rather than trying to process an intense experience immediately before returning to work, family responsibilities and daily routines.

The private setting also creates room for something that can be just as important as the guided sessions: simply being together.

You can cook together, walk around the grounds, sit beside the water, relax in the hot tub or have conversations without the distractions of normal life.

What makes this retreat different?

The combination of several elements makes this retreat particularly distinctive.

It is private, because the accommodation is exclusively for the couple.

It is personalised, because both participants complete an intake and the approach is adapted to their circumstances and intentions.

It is experienced, because the facilitators have extensive experience with different psychedelic approaches.

It is relationship-focused, while still recognising that each partner has their own individual process.

And it is more than a session, because the program deliberately includes preparation, a dedicated psychedelic session, a full integration day and a gradual return to everyday life.

The aim is not to promise that a psychedelic experience will solve a relationship. Instead, the retreat creates a private environment in which two people can slow down, explore themselves and their connection, and give their relationship focused attention.

A space to reconnect

Modern life rarely provides four uninterrupted days for a couple to step away from everything else.

This retreat creates exactly that space.

You arrive together, settle into a private cottage, prepare for the experience, go through the guided psychedelic session, spend a full day resting and integrating, and finally return home together.

For couples who are curious about psychedelic work and want to explore their relationship in a private, carefully prepared setting, this retreat offers a different way to step outside familiar routines and create space for reflection, connection and personal exploration.

Every couple is different, and every psychedelic experience is different. There are no guaranteed outcomes.

What we provide is the setting, preparation, experienced guidance, privacy and time needed to explore the experience with care.
