Can you microdose ayahuasca? What kind of effects can this have?
Microdosing refers to taking a subperceptual dose of a psychedelic substance, meaning that the dose is so low that it does not induce significant psychedelic effects, but may offer subtle benefits. With ayahuasca, however, it is important to understand that the combination of DMT and MAO inhibitors has a different dynamic compared to other psychedelics such as psilocybin or LSD.
It is not common for ayahuasca to be used for microdosing. Ayahuasca contains DMT (dimethyltryptamine) and MAO inhibitors, which together can induce an intense psychedelic experience. The DMT in ayahuasca only takes effect above a certain threshold, and when microdosing, you will most likely not exceed that. Therefore, do not expect any effects from DMT, as it will not reach the brain. However, the MAO inhibitors present in ayahuasca may possibly exert some influence.
The presence of MAO inhibitors in ayahuasca can affect the breakdown of neurotransmitters, which can lead to changes in mood and mental clarity. It can also be potentially dangerous, especially in combination with other substances or medications. This is because the MAO inhibitors in ayahuasca interact strongly with medication, and the use of MAO inhibitors can be dangerous in combination with various foods.
Instead of microdosing with ayahuasca, it may be more beneficial to look at other psychedelics such as psilocybin, which are better researched and considered safer. Psilocybin has been shown to have positive effects on mood and creativity without the additional contraindication that ayahuasca has.
