If I want to attend a truffle ceremony, is that possible if I use colestyramine?
Colestyramine has no direct interaction with the substances in truffles, such as psilocybin and psilocin. Colestyramine, also known as cholestyramine, is a medication used to lower blood cholesterol levels, particularly “bad” cholesterol (LDL). It works by binding to bile acids in the intestine, causing the body to use more cholesterol to produce new bile acids, resulting in a reduction in cholesterol levels. If there is less bile acid due to Colestyramine, the conversion of psilocybin to psilocin might slow down slightly, causing the trip to start a little slower and be slightly less intense. We believe that this effect is minimal and that if some acid (vitamin C, citric acid) is added to the truffles, there is no longer any difference in absorption at all.
Cholestyramine and truffles (psilocybin and psilocin) can therefore most likely be combined. However, if you want to be absolutely sure whether it is safe for your specific case, consult your treating physician.
