Is an esketamine session suitable if I want to work through childhood trauma? My main intention is to better deal with certain parts of myself that originated from traumatic experiences in my childhood. These parts likely helped me survive in the past, but in my current life, I often experience them as hindering. My goal would be to no longer push these parts away, but rather to recognize, accept, and integrate them in a more helpful way.
A few years ago, I did a guided truffle session. However, I barely had a noticeable experience back then. In retrospect, I think this was possibly because I was using escitalopram, which might have weakened the effects of the truffles, or that the dose was simply too low.
Because I have read about treatments with esketamine, I am curious whether that might be a better option in my case. Therefore, I wonder which form of therapy might be most suitable for my situation. Naturally, I am open to feedback and advice regarding which approach, substances, or session formats best align with my goals and background.
Thank you for sharing your intentions. The way you describe wanting to welcome and integrate parts of yourself that originated from childhood experiences aligns well with the type of inner work that is often central to guided sessions.
At this moment, it is still difficult to determine exactly which type of session suits you best, but that is not necessary at all. We do not need to make a final decision yet. Even after you have reserved a date, we can still review which form of session is most suitable during the preparation and adjust this if necessary right up until the session begins.
Ketamine can be helpful for some people because it can provide temporary distance from the body and fixed thought patterns. Due to the dissociative effect, it can feel as if you are briefly detaching from physical sensations and emotional baggage. This can sometimes lead to new insights.
At Triptherapie we work with a longer-acting form, meaning the experience can last approximately 4 to 5 hours. As a result, the session resembles a psychedelic therapy session more than the shorter clinical ketamine treatments that often last only an hour.
Psilocybin could also be an option. However, it is important to take into account that escitalopram often weakens the effects of psilocybin. This could also explain why your previous truffle session had little effect.
Sometimes people still experience something, but the intensity can be clearly reduced. Therefore, it is good to discuss this further together before we decide whether this is the best choice in your situation.
Another possibility is MDMA-assisted session. MDMA is often used in trauma processing because it can increase feelings of safety, openness, and self-compassion, while temporarily reducing anxiety responses. As a result, it can become easier for some people to work with difficult memories or defense mechanisms. When using MDMA, medication must be monitored even more strictly, as it cannot be taken together with SSRIs and other antidepressants.
Triptherapie cannot provide MDMA, but we can supervise a session when someone brings their own MDMA (under certain conditions).
If you wish, you can already reserve a date for a session. In the period leading up to the session, we can then look further together at which format best suits your goals and situation.
