I am curious about how a truffle ceremony unfolds in practice. What does a standard daily schedule look like? How long does such a ceremony last and what phases are gone through? What rituals and guidance do participants receive? What happens before, during, and after the ceremony? What does the preparation and aftercare entail? Can you provide a typical timeline?

A truffle ceremony has multiple phases: preparation, ceremony, and integration. Each phase contributes to achieving the maximum effect. Here is a typical timeline and an explanation of what such a day (and the associated process) looks like:

1. Preparation (a few days to weeks in advance)

Intake
You fill the intake in which your physical and mental health is assessed. This helps determine an appropriate dosage, therapist, and setting.

Nutritional and lifestyle advice
You receive personal advice on nutrition, supplements (such as tryptophan, magnesium, omega-3), and exercise. Breathing exercises, meditation, and intention work are also recommended.

Setting an intention
Through contact with your guide, you formulate your personal intention: what do you want to let go of, process, or gain insight into?

2. The day of the ceremony (average 8–10 hours)

14:30 – Arrival & welcome

You will receive a warm welcome. You will meet the facilitators and other participants (in the case of a group ceremony). There is tea, time to settle in, and time to discuss any tensions.

15:00 – Sharing intentions & meditation

Everyone is given the opportunity to share their intention in a safe setting. This is often followed by a short guided meditation or breathing exercise.

16:00 – Ingestion of truffles

The truffles are taken in adjusted doses, sometimes in combination with a drink. The facilitators remain present and attune to your emotional and physical signals.

16:15 – Start of the trip

The psychedelic effects begin after 30–60 minutes. You lie comfortably, often with an eye mask and soothing music. You sink into yourself and experience an inner journey, supported by music, aromas, and sometimes touch (with permission).

17:30 – Peak experience

During the peak, there is intense introspection, visions, or emotional breakthroughs. The facilitators are available for support but also respect your inner process.

21:00 – Descent

The effects are subsiding. You may talk, move, draw, or write. Often, a quiet debriefing or moment of silence follows. Any feelings are discussed if necessary.

22:00 – Joint meal

A nutritious, light meal is served. This helps you ground yourself after the experience.

23:00 – Wrap-up or overnight stay

For departures during day ceremonies, the overnight stay is included, but you may also go home (not by car). At psychedelic retreats The group stays overnight, and the extra integration day follows the next day.

3. Aftercare & integration

1-on-1 contact or integration session
After the ceremony, a conversation often follows (by phone or via Zoom) in which you discuss the experience and translate it into your daily life. For retreats, there is an additional online Zoom session after a few weeks.

Guidance and rituals

With every truffle ceremony Trained facilitators are present. They have a background in psychology, body-oriented therapy, or spirituality. Rituals such as burning sage, using singing bowls, breathwork, or guided visualizations are employed to deepen the ceremony. During the peak of the ceremony, music plays the most important role and there are no rituals.
