The duration of ayahuasca ranges on average between 4 and 8 o’clock, depending on the composition, dosage, your body weight, metabolism and sensitivity. The experience often involves a gradual build-up, a peak and a slow taper-off phase.

⏱ Stages of an ayahuasca session:

  1. Onset (0–60 minutes): The first effects begin to be felt within 30 to 60 minutes of taking it. Some people initially experience physical discomfort such as nausea, tremors or diarrhoea.

  2. Peak phase (1–3 hours): During this phase, the hallucinations, insights and emotional processes are at their most intense.

  3. Finishing (3–6 hours): The effects begin to wear off gradually. You often still feel introspective or emotional, but with greater clarity.

  4. Afterglow (6–12 hours): After an active trip, you may feel tired, euphoric or emotional. These after-effects can influence your mood and state of mind right into the following day.

Please note: ayahuasca can take longer than expected, particularly at high doses, in sensitive individuals and with additional doses (boosters). In rare cases, mild side effects or tiredness may even until 12 noon Continue to take after ingestion.

Due to its long duration of action — and its intensity — it is recommended that ayahuasca be used only in a a safe environment with experienced support. Alternatively, many people these days opt for a truffle ceremony or psiloflora ceremony, which is usually last for a shorter time (5–6 hours), are more predictable and are, in fact, legally permitted.
