Can you suffer from serotonin syndrome during a truffle ceremony?

If no medicines are used and when only magic truffles are used during the truffle ceremony, the chance of serotonin syndrome almost nil. Serotonin syndrome is a life-threatening condition that can occur when there is an excessive amount of serotonin in the brain. This can happen due to the use of certain medications, such as antidepressants, in combination with other substances that increase serotonin levels.

At Triptherapie, we look at the participants' completed history, including the use of medications such as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and other serotonergic agents. Combining psilocybin-containing truffles with these medications can indeed increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Our approach focuses on safety and effectiveness. Therefore, we advise participants to inform us about their medication use so that we can make an informed decision regarding the suitability of a truffle ceremony. In most cases, the use of SSRIs will reduce the effects of the truffle ceremony, but it can also lead to dangerous interactions. We inform potential participants of contraindications if we detect them during the intake.

If no medicines are involved, the chance is 0!
