What are the similarities between ketamine and psilocybin? In what way is the experience comparable?

Ketamine and psilocybin are both psychoactive substances that have a similar impact on an individual's perception, thoughts, and emotions. Ketamine is a dissociative agent and psilocybin is a classic hallucinogen. Although they belong to different chemical classes, they show some similarities regarding the effects and experiences reported by users.

First, both can ketamine psilocybin can lead to changes in sensory perception. Users, particularly with psilocybin use, may experience visual distortions, such as seeing colorful patterns, changes in shapes, or the appearance of new objects. These changes in perception may also be accompanied by auditory hallucinations or disturbances.

Secondly, both substances can evoke feelings of connectedness and unity with the environment. Users often report a sense of deep connection with others, nature, or even the universe as a whole. This is sometimes described as a mystical or spiritual experience.

Thirdly, both ketamine and psilocybin can induce a heightened sense of introspection and self-reflection. Users can gain deeper insights into their own thoughts, emotions, and underlying psychological processes. This can lead to a better understanding of themselves and any problems or challenges they are facing.

Fourthly, both ketamine and psilocybin have shown potential therapeutic applications in the treatment of mental disorders. Research suggests that they may be effective in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). According to most studies, psilocybin works better, whereas with ketamine there are still many doubts as to whether it actually works better than a placebo.

There are also differences between ketamine and psilocybin. Ketamine, for example, has a stronger dissociative effect, which can lead to a feeling of separation between body and mind. Psilocybin, on the other hand, is known for its intense visual hallucinations and profound spiritual experiences.
