Why are truffles philosophers' stones mentioned in English?

The nickname Philosophers' Stones refers not only to the hard, stony structure of dried truffles, but also to the way in which these natural agents the philosophical thinking can stimulate. During and especially after the peak of a truffle trip, in the so-called coming down-phase, many people experience a deeper form of self-reflection. Thoughts become slower but richer, giving rise to insights about life, relationships, and one's own consciousness. This is precisely what philosophers have strived for for centuries.

When magic truffles are dried, they lose their moisture and turn into rock-hard, stony structures. Hence the name Philosophers' Stones: literally because they resemble stones, and figuratively because they open the mind to deep, philosophical reflections.

The active ingredients psilocybin and psilocin cause an altered perception, in which time, space, and meaning become fluid. During the coming down, the user slowly returns to a sober state, but often with a sense of wonder and a head full of new ideas about the essence of existence.

At Triptherapie is consciously utilized: facilitators encourage verbalizing or writing down thoughts, feelings, and insights, so that the experience is not only intense, but also transformative becomes. The philosophical clarity that can emerge from the truffle experience is, for many, precisely the beginning of lasting personal growth.

I once wrapped a leftover batch of truffles in kitchen paper and left it inside my summer jacket. During the winter, it had the chance to dry out, resulting in the truffles becoming as hard as stone. Because they were dried, they remained well preserved and could still be used. This, combined with the fact that truffles in lower doses can aid in philosophizing and brainstorming, is why people sometimes call them philosophical stones.

@marcel Did you actually use them, and was the effect strong enough?

I didn't use them myself at the time, but a friend of mine did. This was a low dosage of 2 to 3 grams or so. The amount of effects was already low because of this, and I personally think that the 25-50% was less potent than fresh. However, it is difficult to say this with certainty without measuring it.
