Psilohuasca vs truffle ceremony:

When weighing the pros and cons between a truffle ceremony (with only truffles) and psilohuasca (truffles and caapi), which is the best option?

I personally have a strong preference for increasing the dosage of truffles rather than taking psilohuasca. This is primarily due to the safety and ease of using truffles. Truffles contain psilocybin, a substance that is orally active and carries fewer risks compared to combining psilocybin with MAO inhibitors such as Banisteriopsis Caapi (an ingredient of ayahuasca). Using truffles offers a more controlled experience, allowing you to adjust the dosage to your personal needs and comfort level.

Moreover, I have found that truffles in higher doses can offer a clear and visual trip, which is an important aspect of the psychedelic experience for me. The ability to increase the dosage without the complications of MAO inhibitors makes it a more attractive option for me.

Furthermore, I personally experience far fewer physical discomforts when using truffles instead of psilohuasca. So, much less chance of vomiting or diarrhea. What I personally find unpleasant about psilohuasca is that it releases a lot of adrenaline while also making me sleepy. These two contradictions create a miserable feeling, which I do not experience with truffles.

In short, I prefer to dose higher with truffles than I do with psilohuasca, in order to save on the amount of truffles used. Consequently, I do not need a modified diet!

At our truffle ceremonies and truffle retreats Most people now prefer more psilocybin rather than adding an MAOI. This is for practical reasons and safety, as you do not need to go on a special diet.

When you weigh the choice between a truffle ceremony (without MAO inhibitors) and a psilohuasca ceremony (with Banisteriopsis Caapi), there are important pros and cons to consider — especially regarding effect, safety, and preparation.

A truffle ceremony It works exclusively with psilocybin, which is naturally orally active. As a result, there is no need for MAO inhibitors such as Caapi, which are essential for ayahuasca and psilohuasca to keep the active substance (DMT or psilocin) active for longer. Psilocybin offers an intense, visual, and introspective experience lasting 4 to 6 hours. The major advantage: it is safer, more predictable, and requires no diet or extensive medical screening.

A psilohuasca ceremony combines truffles with Caapi to prolong the trip and potentially deepen it. However, significant risks are associated with this. MAO inhibitors block the breakdown of tyramine and serotonin, among others, which can be life-threatening in combination with commonly used medications and certain foods. low-tyramine diet is therefore indispensable, and many people experience nausea or vomiting as a side effect.

Triptherapie itself prefers truffle ceremonies without Caapi, possibly with mild MAO inhibitors such as Passiflora incarnata (psiloflora). According to the extensive comparison are the therapeutic effects of psilocybin without an MAO inhibitor usually more powerful, safer, and more comfortable — especially because the body is then under less stress.

In summary: if safety, simplicity, and physical comfort are important to you, a truffle ceremony without Caapi is usually the best choice. However, if you desire a deeper and longer experience, then psiloflora be a good compromise.

Truffles don't need any extra additions, so just go for a truffle ceremony.

Below you will find a comparison between psilohuasca, psiloflora, and the truffle ceremony with normal or higher dosages. In doing so, we look at the balance between depth, safety, and your specific wish for inner peace.

1. The Standard Truffle Ceremony

  1. What it is: An average dose of psilocybin (e.g., 15-30 grams).

  2. Focus: Accessibility, gentle introspection, and emotional processing.

  3. For whom: People who are being introduced for the first time or are seeking a mild therapeutic boost.

  4. Inner peace factor: High, because the physical strain is minimal.

2. The High Dose Truffles (The "Clean Deep Dive")

  1. What it is: A high dose of psilocybin (e.g. 40-60 grams) without additives.

  2. Focus: Maximum psychological depth, mystical experiences, and ego dissolution.

  3. Your argument: Pharmacologically, this is the safest way to go "to the bottom". You have the depth of Psilohuasca, but without the medical risks and the physical "noise" of an MAO inhibitor.

  4. Inner peace factor: Very high. It is a "clean" trip where you don't have to fight nausea from a vine.

3. Psiloflora (Truffles + Passionflower)

  1. What it is: A combination of truffles with the Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata).

  2. Focus: Passionflower is a mild MAO inhibitor. It prolongs and deepens the trip and adds a calming, dreamy layer.

  3. Advantage: It is less risky than Psilohuasca and the chance of vomiting is small. It is often seen as the "golden mean".

  4. Inner peace factor: High. The passion flower is known for its calming effect, which aligns well with your goal.

4. Psilohuasca (Truffles + Caapi)

  1. What it is: Truffles with the strong MAO inhibitor Banisteriopsis caapi.

  2. Focus: A very raw, prolonged, and often physically demanding experience.

  3. Disadvantage: High risk of interactions, strict diet required, and often a severe "purge" (vomiting).

  4. Inner peace factor: Lower. Physical restlessness and the risk of a heavy physical struggle can stand in the way of inner peace.

Comparison table of the 4 routes

Feature Standard Truffle High Dose Truffle Psiloflora Psilohuasca
Depth Average Very High High Very High
Duration 4-5 hours 5-7 hours 6-8 hours 6-8 hours
Physical rest High High High Low (often purge)
Safety Maximum Maximum High Moderate (MAO risk)
Need a diet? No No Light Yes, very strict

Final verdict for your individual session in Amsterdam

Given your preference for inner peace and the desire to be alone, two options emerge as the best:

  1. High Dose Truffles: This is the best choice if you want to embark on the deepest spiritual or psychological journey with the least physical distraction and the highest physical safety. It is "pure" and powerful.

  2. Psiloflora: This is a beautiful alternative if you want to make the journey just a little longer and visually richer, with the Passionflower helping to maintain a deep state of relaxation.

Psilohuasca seems less suitable for your specific goal (inner peace) due to the physical unrest that the Caapi vine brings with it.

I'd rather not take MAOIs. I don't react well to them and prefer more psychedelics to make the trip stronger. And for a lot of MAO inhibitors, you have to go on a special diet. You have to plan that, and that takes away the spontaneity.

Here is a clear summary of the discussion:

The general preference is for a higher dosage of truffles without MAO inhibitors instead of psilohuasca (truffles combined with Banisteriopsis Caapi). The main reasons for this are safety, simplicity and physical comfort.

Psilocybin from truffles is naturally orally active and does not require an MAO inhibitor to work. This makes its use more predictable and safer, and eliminates the need to follow a strict diet. With psilohuasca, on the other hand, MAO inhibitors block the breakdown of certain substances in the body, posing risks in combination with medication and tyramine-rich foods. Therefore, a special diet is necessary.

In addition, many users experience more physical discomforts with psilohuasca, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. A contradictory sensation of simultaneous adrenaline and drowsiness is also frequently reported, which can be perceived as unpleasant. This is generally reported less frequently with higher doses of truffles without MAOIs.

Moreover, a high dose of truffles can provide a deep, visual, and mystical experience comparable to psilohuasca, but without the physical “noise” and without additional medical risks. Therefore, many participants in truffle ceremonies nowadays opt for more psilocybin instead of the addition of an MAO inhibitor.

A middle ground is psiloflora (truffles + passionflower), a milder MAO inhibitor that poses fewer risks and less physical strain than Caapi, but can still prolong and deepen the trip.

Briefly summarized:
For those who value safety, physical comfort, flexibility in dosage, and not being on a diet, a higher dose of truffles without MAOIs is usually the most practical and pleasant choice.
