Is a truffle ceremony dangerous? I have no health issues and don't take any medication. What could happen to me?
Physically speaking, magic mushrooms and truffles are not dangerous drugs at all. Problems have only arisen in conjunction with certain medications or serious medical conditions. If you are otherwise mentally and physically healthy and not prone to psychosis, the chance of negative effects on the body is very small.
In addition to the physical effects on the body, you will from the psilocybin and psilocin start hallucinating while on truffles and experience an altered form of consciousness. If this is a negative experience, fear can sometimes take over and persist for a few weeks even after the effects of the truffles wear off. We call this a bad trip, and it can often even be prevented if the preparation and support surrounding a truffle ceremony is good. To prevent a bad trip, preparation for the truffle ceremony is helpful, during which you improve neurochemistry and receive information about the ceremony. Previous studies had shown that a neurochemical imbalance is an indication of a bad trip.
