What is the best thing for me to do if I still want to attend a psychedelic retreat or private psilocybin session in 2025? I want to do it this year. What is the best option?

The question "Retreat or private session?" is actually the most important question you must ask yourself. This determines much of your experience.
A group retreat is very valuable. You are with 5 other people, guided by two therapists. As many people say: the group energy stirs something up. You feel less alone in your struggle. Plus, seeing how others grow is inspiring. And afterwards, you immediately have a kind of "tribe"—people who understand, because they have been through it too.
A private session is very intimate. You work one-on-one with your chosen therapist. Much deeper work can take place. You don't have to wait for the group; you can really dig into your deepest themes. This is better if you already have some experience, or if you have very specific traumas you are struggling with.
My advice: if you have never taken truffles before, start with the private session. You learn how it feels, you are safe, and you can choose the location yourself.
What is also important: the timing. November and December are busy months. The retreats will likely fill up quickly. So if you want to do it this year, check availability soon. December also brings winter weather in the Netherlands – some people enjoy it (introspectively), others find it grim.
Also: be honest with yourself about why you want to do this. Is it about:
- Healing traumatic things? → Private life works better
- Personal growth / insight? → Retreat is perfect
- Are you lonely / depressed? → Retreat, group energy helps
- Do you really want deep-level transformation? → Private
- Do you want a group session primarily focused on therapy and integration? → 3-day retreat
That distinction truly determines what will be best for you. Both are transformative, but in different ways.
And practically speaking: preparation starts now. This isn't something you do next week and immediately feel better. Preparing yourself mentally, preparing your body (less stimulation, more rest, drinking water, no alcohol) makes a huge difference.
