Which psychedelic drugs can cause the infamous Tuesday slump?
The Tuesday slump mainly occurs when using psychedelics that work in the same way as MDMA. This phenomenon is characterised by feelings of tiredness and low mood on a particular day within a week of taking a higher dose of such a psychedelic. This may be caused by the depletion of serotonin and dopamine, as well as sleep problems arising from the use of MDMA and/or similar substances (6-APB, MDEA, etc.).
Sometimes it happens that people, after the use of LSD or psilocybin experience a slump similar to the ‘Tuesday slump’. However, this is not caused by the depletion of one’s own neurotransmitters, but may be due to a lack of sleep and perhaps an increase in MAO enzymes. This increase may accelerate the oxidation of serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitters, which can contribute to feelings of gloom and fatigue following the experience.
