What is better? Mushroom therapy or truffle therapy?

Mushroom therapy Mushroom therapy and truffle therapy are both forms of psychedelic therapy that use the active substance psilocybin. The main difference between the two is the source of psilocybin. Mushroom therapy uses magic mushrooms, while truffle therapy uses magic truffles.

The most important difference between magic mushrooms and truffles is the concentration of psilocybin. Magic mushrooms generally have a higher concentration of psilocybin, while truffles have a lower concentration. This can affect the intensity of the experience during therapy. Some people prefer the milder effects of truffles, while others prefer the stronger effects of magic mushrooms. This difference can be compensated for by eating more truffles.

In terms of therapeutic effects, there are no significant differences between magic mushroom therapy and truffle therapy. Both can be effective in treating various mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and addiction. It is important to note that the effectiveness of the therapy depends not only on the substance used but also on the guidance and the environment in which the therapy takes place.

As Marcel rightly states: both use the same active ingredient, psilocybin. This means that the core efficacy is identical. The depth of introspection, the neurological effects, the therapeutic possibilities—all the same.

However, there are some practical and experience-related differences that are important. Magic mushrooms have been illegal in the Netherlands since 2008 due to their psilocybin content. This makes mushroom therapy legally problematic. Truffles, however, although they contain the same substances, fall under a legal grey area that makes it practically possible to offer them as food.

In terms of concentration, Marcel is right. Magic mushrooms usually have more psilocybin per gram. This means that with magic mushrooms, you have an intense experience faster. With truffles, you do indeed have to take more, but this has an advantage: you have more control over the dosage and you can build up more slowly.

Scientific studies show that both are equally effective. Studies from universities such as Johns Hopkins and Imperial College used psilocybin in various forms, and the therapeutic results were identical.

My personal experience: many participants feel subjectively more at ease with truffle therapy due to the legal framework. This psychological benefit should not be underestimated. You can fully relax without worrying about legal consequences.
