Consciousness

The human body consists of around 60 quadrillion cells. That’s 60,000,000,000,000 – and that’s not even counting the 10,000 species of bacteria, each with their own population. These cells are like living factories in their own right, working together. Some of these cells are brain cells. These brain cells work together with the other cells in the body. The specific configuration of the brain involves processes that lead us to believe that we are something, that we are someone.

Consciousness makes life particularly (difficult)

Under normal circumstances, the realisation that we exist gives us something extra in life. These extras include enjoyment, finding a purpose in life, and other things that could be described as positive. It is therefore very different from being like a robot, simply going through the motions of life without realising that you exist. Yet the realisation that we exist can also make us realise that we’re not having a good time. Sometimes it’s our ego – that little voice in our head – that tells us we should be worried. Sometimes rightly so, but more often than not, it’s unfounded. Fortunately, however, we are more than just that little voice in our head.

Ego death induced by psychedelics can help

Through meditation and psychedelic ceremonies, it is possible to go beyond the self-destructive thoughts of the ego. Even if the ego is very strong, a high dose of psychedelics will bring about ‘ego death’. This high dose can offer a solution to self-destructive thoughts by temporarily shutting down thought processes, allowing one to subsequently start thinking differently.
