In addition to advice for improving neurochemistry (supplements, nutrition, and exercise), we also provide reading and viewing tips. By absorbing specific information, certain ideas arise. These ideas are, as it were, seeds that can sprout into an insight during a psychedelic session. Watching certain films can therefore have a strong effect on the outcome of a psychedelic trip.

A film we would like to share with everyone, even if you are not going to do a psychedelic session, is the documentary 'My Octopus Teacher'. What messages can you take from this film that could be useful in psychedelic therapy?

We previously compiled an overview of Netflix films about psychedelics. Here is the list of these other suggestions once again.
Heal is not about psychedelics, but rather about the self-healing effect our body has. This self-healing effect can become active when stress and anxiety are reduced, and psychedelics can help with that. Psychedelics often work better than all the alternative methods mentioned. Despite psychedelics not being mentioned, Heal is still interesting to look into.

Prevent depression and suicide by performing an ayahuasca ceremony with extensive preparation in the jungle. Ayahuasca is not legal in the Netherlands, but it is comparable to a high dose of psilocybin (truffles). This film is a great example of how psychedelics can save lives.

The rest of Goop Lab contains a lot of nonsense and should be taken with a grain of salt; however, during episode 1, we do see something interesting. During episode 1 of season 1 of Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow, we see part of a magic mushroom healing. Although every ceremony looks different and we aren't big fans of the ceremony shown, the episode does indicate the healing powers of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in a therapeutic setting.

The Sunshine Makers is about the psychedelic LSD. It is not so much about the healing powers of LSD, but more about the history of LSD and the counter-movement in the 1960s.
In our opinion, The Mind Explained on Netflix is the best preparation and the most informative series when it comes to the workings of the brain and psychedelics. Season 1 contains 5 episodes, and they are all worth watching! From how memory works and why we dream, you move on to which parts of the brain cause stress and anxiety. After those first 3 episodes, you then learn how to activate the body's self-healing abilities using mindfulness and psychedelics. If you don't have much time left… forget the earlier tips and just watch The Mind Explained!

Although several psychedelic stories are told by (semi-)celebrities, this documentary focuses primarily on LSD and psilocybin-containing mushrooms. LSD dominates. It is not so much an educational documentary, although the ending of the film did have some educational value. This documentary is primarily intended to be entertaining, and it certainly is.
