Meet Sascha de Waal

Sascha de Waal, psychologist and counsellor at Triptherapie

Sascha has been part of Triptherapie for over two and a half years and has facilitated nearly 200 sessions. As well as her work as a psychologist in specialist mental health care, she has always had a personal interest in psychology and personal development.

At the age of 23, she was introduced to the world of psychedelics, first as a sort of "Dora the Explorer" in the woods with a friend, and later in a ceremonial setting. There, she discovered just how deeply one can turn inwards and how valuable – and sometimes life-changing – the insights can be.

What talent of yours are we probably not yet aware of?
Three years ago, Sascha and her partner bought a run-down property to renovate, even though she’d never really done any DIY before. It turned out she wasn’t all that hopeless with her hands after all. A painter working on the street even complimented her on her work on the window frames and offered her a job. For now, she’s sticking to psychology and psychedelics, but who knows – one day you might spot her on a scaffold with a paintbrush. Her next project is to build her own practice space, where she’ll also be facilitating psychedelic sessions.

Which challenge with clients gives you the most energy?
When Sascha set up her own practice, Innervisions Therapy, she was asked who her ideal client was. Her answer: often someone just like herself. Her own journey taught her to step out of her head and live from her heart, to let go of perfectionism, to trust more and slow down, to let go of society’s expectations and her own, and to follow her heart – however exciting and uncertain that may be. These are precisely the areas in which she enjoys helping others. She draws on her studies, her work and all the sessions she has facilitated, but above all on her own experiences and life lessons.

Favourite quote?
"And ultimately, the love you receive is equal to the love you give." (The Beatles)

Sascha grew up listening to The Beatles, and music has always played an important role in her life. There is so much wisdom and emotion in song lyrics, and nothing enhances the psychedelic experience quite like music. She enjoyed putting together the playlist she uses in her sessions. She once gave this quote to her parents as a piece of art on wood. For her, it shows how important it is to give love to the people around you, whether you know them or not, and that the love you give ultimately comes back to you. It is also a reminder of the importance of love in general – for the world and for yourself.

Ready for a profound transformation? Discover our 4-day psilocybin retreat

4-day psilocybin retreat with ceremony and integration

You know when it’s time for real change. You’re ready to break out of patterns and let go of behaviour that no longer serves you, or you’ve reached a standstill and don’t know how to move forward.

A guided 4-day psilocybin retreat is designed for precisely these moments. This is no ordinary weekend away. It is an intensive, therapeutic programme in a small, safe group, where personal growth, healing and connection are the main focus.

What can you expect?
The retreats are designed to give you plenty of space for deep transformation. You will be guided by experienced therapists who know how to create a safe space. They work with methods such as IFS, Voice Dialogue, TSM Psychodrama, Interpersonal Mindfulness, self-compassion, existential therapy, Focusing, narrative therapy and trauma-sensitive counselling. In this way, insights are not only understood, but also felt, embodied and, step by step, integrated into daily life.

We keep the groups small and safe, so that there is plenty of personal attention and scope for deep connection with like-minded people.

Thorough preparation and integration are crucial. That is why the programme begins before the retreat with careful preparation and concludes with integration sessions to help you embed your insights into your daily life.

Who is this retreat for?
This 4-day trip is for you if you want to:

  • Letting go of blockages, fear or ingrained thought patterns.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of your life’s journey, emotions or relationships.
  • Taking steps in your personal and spiritual development.

Places are limited so that we can ensure quality and safety. Would you like to find out more about the dates, the exact location or the programme? View all the details and sign up below.

"The journey outwards begins with a journey inwards."

Do you have any questions about the retreat, or are you wondering whether now is the right time for you? Please feel free to get in touch. We’d be happy to help you think it through.

New research: what psilocybin does to the brain

Research into psilocybin and the brain

A new study in Nature, led by Monash University, offers a new insight into how psilocybin works in the brain. According to the university, it is the world’s largest single-site study into the acute effects of psilocybin on the brain. The study challenges the long-held view that psychedelics cause chaotic or disorganised brain activity.

In the PsiConnect study, 62 healthy participants were given a dose of 19 mg of psilocybin and were scanned using fMRI and EEG whilst at rest, during a guided meditation, whilst listening to music and whilst watching a film. Under the influence of psilocybin, the brain networks that help us process our inner world and the world around us became less sharply defined, but reorganised themselves into patterns that corresponded to what people were experiencing. This effect was most pronounced in people who had a more positive experience and felt less detached from the world around them.

The role of context is striking. Brain patterns changed depending on whether participants were resting, listening to music, meditating or watching a film. In the researchers’ own words, context is not merely the backdrop to the psychedelic experience. This ties in with what we see in our own work: setting, guidance and preparation are important.
