It happens to me more and more often. A couple from another country comes to the Netherlands for a couples session as relationship therapy. This is often because they have read about the beneficial effects of various psychedelics on trauma and their relationship. The latest couple I am helping with this is a wonderful couple from Jordan. They have everything they want: great jobs, children, and each other. Yet, they want to improve their relationship.

Why with me?

These customers have indicated good reviews about me (Marcel) having read it. I think they meant the one below.

Psychedelic relationship therapy review

We have had four trips now with Marcel as our sitter and highly recommend him and Triptherapie. After struggling for years with our relationship, despite counseling, Marcel and psychedelics made all the difference. With our scientific background we researched it carefully and were reassured by Marcel's expertise and the holistic, professional approach of Triptherapie which advises on nutrition and much more in preparation for the trip and follows up with us after the treatment.

In Marcel's calm and reassuring care, we have undertaken a variety of amazing trips, and have benefited in different ways each time. After the latest trip, a hippie flip, it feels like we have finally turned a corner. Psychedelics are such powerful tools when used properly and should be made available to so many more people. Thank goodness we found this great service which we will be making a regular investment in our marriage.

Thank you Marcel!

How do you find each other?

When clients like this sign up and want a session with me and want to work on their relationship, I almost always say that session number 1 should focus more on the relationship they have with themselves, and only then look at the interpersonal relationship. So, by finding yourself first, you automatically find each other more. Through a session with truffles, you can sometimes look beyond the illusions you have created about yourself or connect very deeply with your emotional world (the real self). This allows you to release old pain more easily and be more connected to your self-love. This first step can already help couples, but a second session focused on the relationship itself can also be beneficial.

What I often see in practice is that partners think their problems lie primarily “between them,” whereas the origin is often individual: old pain, attachment patterns, or beliefs that originated long ago and unconsciously influence the relationship. You can take an individual inner journey together at the same time. This is often a psilocybin duo session where you can make your own journey side by side or in two adjoining rooms. You get closer to yourself, and precisely because of this, more space is created to truly see the other person.

During such a first session, people often experience more self-compassion. And that is crucial. For without self-love, projection, blame, or dependency arise more quickly. From that renewed connection with yourself, it becomes much easier to work on the relationship together in the next step.

In a second joint session (MDMA might be particularly helpful here), you see something special happen. Partners are able to approach each other without the old defense mechanisms. Conversations become softer, more honest, and often more emotional, but in a safe way. Space for understanding emerges instead of conflict, as I notice very clearly with the couple from Jordan.

What is important to remember: you don't find each other by trying harder in the relationship, but by being more honest with yourself. The relationship then often follows naturally.
