My GP mentioned your name and said that he has had many people in his practice who have been to Triptherapie. He said that he is not officially allowed to refer, but he does want to be present at my session if I decide to continue. Can my GP come along?

It’s lovely to hear that GPs are increasingly mentioning Triptherapie. This is often because clients speak positively about us during consultations with their GPs. It’s wonderful that your GP is so open-minded and is even willing to offer his support during a session. That can be incredibly valuable, both for your sense of security and for integrating the experience into your ongoing care pathway.

So the answer is: Yes, your GP may be present at a session., provided you feel comfortable with that yourself. However, there are a few points to keep in mind to ensure everything remains legal:

  1. Role of the general practitioner – Because psychedelic therapy is not (yet) a recognized medical treatment in the Netherlands, your GP will be present at the session as additional support and not in the official role of practitioner. Our facilitators remain responsible for the guidance of the psychedelic session.

  2. Prior coordination – It is important that we know in advance that your GP will be present. During the intake Could you please indicate this, so that we take his or her presence into account and good cooperation can be established?.

  3. Practical setting – In these types of situations, clients often choose to have the session at their home or in a quiet, rented space. This makes it easier to have a general practitioner present as well without the setting becoming too busy.

  4. Your safety and trust – The biggest advantage is that you may feel safer with your GP present. It can also be helpful that he or she has background medical knowledge and knows your history.

  5. Compensation: Even if you are referred by your GP, you will still have to pay for the session yourself. This is because health insurance providers do not yet recognise or reimburse these therapies, which are still considered experimental.

We have previously experienced doctors or psychologists wanting to be present during a session, and this has always proceeded in good consultation. It often provides an extra layer of trust and care. If your GP immediately contact If you want to have this with us, that is certainly possible.
