LSD with Gabapentin

LSD + Gabapentin results in:

1. Neurochemical interactions: There is little direct research into this combination. Gabapentin works by binding to the α₂δ subunit of calcium channels, thereby reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters (e.g. glutamate) and increasing GABAergic inhibition. LSD activates serotonin and dopamine pathways, but does not have a direct antagonistic mechanism with GABA. Theoretically, gabapentin may somewhat temper the neuronal excitation caused by LSD by increasing GABA activity.

2. Therapeutic effect: The available literature provides no evidence that gabapentin either enhances or significantly reduces the psychedelic effects of LSD. It is possible that gabapentin, due to its calming effect, may slightly reduce the intensity of the LSD experience (less anxiety or overstimulation), but this is speculative. Studies on psilocybin and similar substances suggest that GABAergic modulation may have a dampening effect on psychedelic substances, so it is conceivable that LSD may provide less dopaminergic reward when taken with gabapentin. However, there is no clear scientific confirmation specifically regarding LSD.

3. Danger or risks: There are no known serious interactions. However, both medicines may cause tiredness and dizziness. When taken together, there is therefore an increased risk of drowsiness and impaired performance (driving, sport, etc.). There is no increased risk of serotonin syndrome, as gabapentin does not affect serotonin levels. The risk of addiction to LSD remains unchanged.
