Mushroom therapy and truffle therapy are essentially the same in terms of mechanism of action and purpose: both use psilocybin, a psychoactive substance that has strong effects on consciousness, emotions, and the brain. The difference lies mainly in the form in which the psilocybin is offered and the legal status of it.

What is mushroom therapy?

Mushroom therapy refers to therapeutic use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms (such as Psilocybe cubensis). This form of therapy was also formerly used in the Netherlands, but magic mushrooms have been banned since 2008 due to an amendment to the Opium Act. Although the incidents at the time were often exaggerated, it did lead to a complete ban on the sale of magic mushrooms. However, the therapeutic potential remained intact, leading to a shift towards legal alternatives.

What is truffle therapy?

Truffle therapy uses the sclerotia (underground fungal structures) of the same mushrooms. Magic truffles, just like magic mushrooms, contain psilocybin and are completely legal in the Netherlands. This makes it possible to do so in a safe and professional manner psychedelic therapy to offer, whereby psilocybin is used against depression, trauma, anxiety disorders, and addiction, among other things.

The effects of magic mushrooms and truffles are biologically identical: the body converts psilocybin into psilocin, which mimics serotonin and causes increased brain activity, new neural connections and deep introspection. The choice of truffles is purely legal: because they are legal, they are used in settings such as a truffle ceremony or a individual truffle session.

Summary

Mushroom therapy = prohibited, but was effective.
Truffle therapy = legal and equivalent, and is professionally offered by us.

Mushroom therapy refers to psychedelic therapy who uses magic mushrooms, which contain the active substances psilocybin and psilocin. During a mushroom therapy session, work can be done on underlying problems, fears, and insecurities stored in the subconscious. Mushrooms are often seen as a key to the subconscious, and although they are classified as illegal drugs, their use in therapeutic contexts is increasingly recognized due to their potential for mental health.

Truffle therapy In contrast, uses magic truffles, which also contain psilocybin, but in a different form. In the Netherlands, magic mushrooms have been declared illegal, but magic truffles are legal. The main difference between magic mushrooms and truffles lies in their appearance and the concentration of psilocybin. Magic mushrooms generally have a higher concentration. psilocybin, whereas truffles have a lower concentration. This can affect the intensity of the experience during therapy, but if you take proportionally more truffles, you can ingest the same strength. Therapeutically, there are no significant differences between mushroom therapy and truffle therapy; both can be effective in treating various mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

Mushroom therapy uses magic mushrooms, and truffle therapy uses magic truffles. Both contain psilocybin and should therefore work similarly. The difference lies in the dosage and the sensation experienced with the different forms of these fungi.
