Does it matter whether you use truffles, magic mushrooms, or pure psilocybin as psychedelic therapy?
With these three psychedelics, it does not matter very much which form of psilocybin you use during psychedelic therapy. Although truffles, magic mushrooms, and pure psilocybin all contain the same active substance, namely psilocybin, there are some differences between these forms.
Truffles and magic mushrooms are actually the same organism, but they grow under different conditions. Truffles grow underground, while magic mushrooms grow above ground. The main difference is that truffles contain a higher water content, making them less concentrated in psilocybin. This means that, generally speaking, you need to consume more truffles to experience the same effects as with magic mushrooms.
Pure psilocybin is the isolated form of the active substance and is usually taken in capsule form. The advantage of pure psilocybin is that you can determine the dosage more accurately, because you know exactly how much psilocybin you are taking. This can be useful if you need a specific dosage for scientific research, for example.
For most psilocybin sessions, it is helpful to dose accurately. If the concentration of psilocybin per gram of truffle or magic mushrooms is taken into account, you can still dose reasonably well with a deviation of only a few milligrams of psilocybin. Whether it matters if someone receives 23 or 27 mg of active substance, while 25 mg was the desired dosage, is debatable. We believe that it does not matter much for non-scientific situations and that sensitivity to psilocybin plays a greater factor in achieving the desired strength of the trip.
In short, it doesn't matter much what the source of psilocybin is, as long as the amount of active ingredients is approximately the same.
