What is trip therapy?
Triptherapie is our company name registered with the Chamber of Commerce and is also the name of our website. The website is now 8 years old and our team has grown. Most of the services we offer are called by people psychedelic therapy or truffle ceremony.
At present, trip therapy is not a medical treatment!

Hi @Psylodelic,
Trip therapy is a guided psychedelic programme in which you take psilocybin, MDMA or LSD-like substances under professional supervision to address personal issues. Triptherapie is the Chamber of Commerce-registered business name of Marcel and its team, which has been active since 2018 and has since grown to become the largest provider in the Netherlands, having conducted more than 3,500 guided sessions.
What exactly happens?
You’ll start with an online assessment to check for any medical risks. You’ll then receive advice on nutrition, supplements and mindset. During the session, you’ll be guided by an experienced trip sitter, with the support of aromatherapy, colour therapy and specific music. Afterwards, there are integration sessions to help you consolidate your insights.
The bridging function of Triptherapie
Official psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) is not yet available within the mainstream healthcare system in the Netherlands. It is precisely in this transitional phase that Triptherapie positions itself as a professional support service: not as hospital care, but as a legal programme in which preparation, setting, support and integration are central.
The process begins weeks before admission. We assess participants’ intentions, expectations, mental resilience and lifestyle. The session itself is important, but it only truly comes into its own through personalised attention, structure and follow-up. Afterwards, there are dedicated integration sessions, integration days and multi-day programmes using methods such as IFS, psychodrama, TSM, TRE and breathwork.
Lifestyle and coaching
One distinctive feature is that Triptherapie combines psychedelic support with lifestyle coaching. What is experienced during a session is translated into concrete steps relating to sleep, nutrition, exercise, stress management and relationships. As a result, the support does not remain confined to abstract insights.
Does it really work?
The scientific evidence is encouraging. A recent meta-analysis shows that psilocybin has a rapid and significant antidepressant effect, particularly at a dose of 25 mg, with results visible within a week. A review on PubMed confirms a significant reduction in depressive symptoms in both the short and longer term. Johns Hopkins research shows that 67% remains in remission five years after treatment.
It is, however, worth noting that, from a legal perspective, these commercial sessions are classified as coaching and wellness, not medical treatment. The clinical trials published in JAMA and PubMed are conducted in hospitals using isolated psilocybin and following stricter protocols. The results are promising, but the current form of ‘trip therapy’ lies somewhere between science and wellness.
In summary: Trip Therapy is a legal, supervised psychedelic programme focused on personal growth and mental health. Triptherapie bridges the gap between what is already possible today and what is likely to be more widely recognised tomorrow: a form of support in which psychedelics form part of a wider process of insight, recovery and change.
