What is trip therapy?
When we the website founded Triptherapie, Until recently, the term trip therapy had never been used on the internet. In modern times, trip therapy has become synonymous with psychedelic therapy. However, according to us, trip therapy is something different. Firstly, Triptherapie (with a capital T) is the name of our company, the first open provider of commercial therapeutic trips in the Netherlands and therefore the most well-known. To us, the term trip therapy stands for a guided psychedelic trip with a focus on mental and physical health before, during, and after the session. It is a holistic approach supported by therapists. The core is the trip, the extra progress resulting from the overall approach.
So now, Triptherapie is increasingly being used to indicate psychedelic therapy. This also happened to TomTom; they became synonymous with navigation. Now, Triptherapie is more generic, but it is often a good sign that a brand name is widely used colloquially.
What is trip therapy?
If you want to know what psychedelic therapy is: It is a treatment method that uses psychedelic substances, such as psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms), LSD, or MDMA, to address psychological or emotional problems. A therapist knowledgeable about psychedelics assists with this.
The therapy focuses on using the psychedelic experience to expand a person's consciousness, which can lead to deeper insights about themselves and their mental health. Many of the therapies focus on conditions such as:
Anxiety and depression
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Addiction
Existential fears, such as those often occur in terminal illnesses
The experience can be emotionally and mentally intense, and therapists guide the client to process and integrate the emotions and thoughts that surface during the trip.
There are increasing numbers of scientific studies investigating the benefits of psychedelic therapies. Clinical trials are already underway in some countries, and in certain cases, psychedelic treatments are even approved for medical use, such as in the US and the UK.
