The dream state fosters creativity

The best ideas that go beyond what we already know are often created in a state of imagination or the dream state. REM sleep is also known as dream sleep: the phase of the night in which we primarily dream. During non-REM sleep, the brain mainly processes information absorbed during the day. In the final phase, REM sleep, your brain gets to work with that information: it makes new connections without any logic involved. All of this happens under the influence of our body's own (psychedelic) neurotransmitters. These new connections lead to new ideas, which often manifest through dreams. Unfortunately, we forget those dreams too often to make truly good use of them.

Use techniques that resemble dreams

With meditation techniques, we can also enter a dream state. By pretending to sleep and dream, the body's own "psychedelics" are released, which allow you to form new connections, thereby stimulating the creative process. Thinking outside the box becomes easier.

Psychedelics are dreaming while awake

Psychedelics are a powerful tool that nature has given us. They enable us to exogenously induce a dream state while allowing us to play with the dosage. This ranges from a super-low microdose, where creativity is slightly activated without hallucinating, to a dose higher than the body can typically produce on its own. You might think that the very highest dosage sparks the most creativity, but we do not yet know this for certain. For now, it appears that a medium to high dosage yields the most creativity, as the highest dose, the heroic dose, is generally less well understood.

Creativity or therapy?

In trip therapy, we primarily use psychedelics for their therapeutic effects. Stimulating creativity through meditation or psychedelics also has indirect therapeutic value. The power lies in mimicking good sleep (on a biochemical level). The newly formed brain connections foster creativity, and this makes the brain healthier through the hormone BDNF. BDNF repairs and creates new nerve and brain cells. While you can increase BDNF through diet in addition to good sleep, meditation, and psychedelics, the broadest approach always works best.
