Intra workout drink

An intra workout drink (IWO) is one that is consumed during a (strength) workout to increase performance and promote brainpower. An inta workout is also sometimes called a during workout.

Earlier, we also wrote about a natural and healthy Pre Workout. If you are already using it, you don't need to change the cup and reuse the leftover PWO.

Healthy too

If the intra workout also contains healthy ingredients, two birds with one stone are killed. Better sports performance and an eye for health. For example, our IWO contains a combination of herbs that score very high on anti-oxidative activity.

Herb-based

There are a number of herbs that can boost sports performance by acting in ways other than as antioxidants. Herewith our recipe for a healthy herbal sports drink. In about 500 millilitres of water add:

  • Half a teaspoon of dried mint
  • About 3 fennel seeds
  • 1-3 crushed balls of black pepper or half a teaspoon of powder.
  • A pinch of star anise powder or a broken star tip
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • Piri piri or red pepper powder to taste (don't start with too much)
  • 2 Cloves (to munch on during exercise)
  • One tea bag of green tea of your choice

The herbs for a healthy IWO

The effect of the ingredients

Dried mint

To get right to the point. Mint lowers testosterone levels in men and should not be consumed in large doses, especially if a reasonable amount of gum or mint tea is already consumed. Also do not use if testosterone levels are already lowered. It is recommended if masculinisation (in women) needs to be curbed. A little mint usually does no harm and has a soothing effect on the joints. In our opinion because there is slightly more oestrogen (instead of testosterone) and because of the presence of the polyphenol rosemary acid, which has a good anti-inflammatory function. Less suffering from painful inflamed joints means less anti-inflammatory pain.

Fennel seed

Fennel seed works against colic (gas reduction in intestines), reduces
risk of cancer, works against menstrual pain, gives fresh breath and
Acts as an anti oxidant. Fennel seed, like fennel, contains anethole and
has a stimulating and pain-relieving effect. Never take more than what
is recommended as anethole is mildly toxic. In lower doses, there is
incidentally, no problem

Star anise

Like fennel seeds, star anise contains anethole. Star anise contains a
antiviral component called shikiminic acid (also contains Tamiflu, a
antiviral agent). Star anise has antibacterial and
antifungal effect.

Finally, star anise has warming properties due to the substances
linalol and limonene. Linalol protects blood vessels and improves
blood flow. Limonene has anti-cancer properties. Together, these
antioxidants ensure energy levels are maintained and
they stimulate the body to cough up mucus in colds, asthma
and bronchitis. The action of star anise allows an athlete to better
absorb oxygen and perform better.

Black pepper

Black pepper makes the other spices in this IWO better
be absorbed, thanks in part to piperine. Furthermore, black pepper also works
as an antioxidant. For an athlete, black pepper is of extra interest
because it has a stimulating effect, provides better
circulation, works against muscle pain and provides more air through the
dissolving mucus.

Turmeric

Turmeric, like the other herbs, has anti-inflammatory and co
as a result, it also works against cancer. It is also a natural
painkiller that works even in rheumatism and osteoarthritis. Turmeric is a light
MAO inhibitor allowing you to exercise with more pleasure and focus.
Turmeric reduces muscle damage and reduces muscle breakdown
during exercise. Also, use turmeric wisely and not at
kidney stones.

Piri Piri

Red pepper and Piri piri contains capsaicin, the substance that tastes spicy.
This substance prevents fat cells from growing properly and causes
muscles become stronger. This effect is because capsaicin increases the
stimulates production of mitochondria. These are the energy factories in the
(muscle) cells. Also, capsaicin causes testosterone
mirror rises.

Clove

When exercising, remove a clove from the mix and keep sucking on it while exercising.

Cloves contain eugenol, a substance with anaesthetic properties. The slight inhibition of the pain stimulus increases strength and delays the feeling of acidification. At low doses, this is completely safe. However, perform the exercises properly and never take too many painkillers when exercising. A little clove increases testosterone, too much lowers it.

Green tea

Many green tea and the other herbs in this IWO contain
antioxidants and vitamins that help boost your immune system. So
green tea contains caffeine, theine, theanine, thebromine, thephylline and
vitamin c. For an athlete, it is useful that those antioxidants ensure
ensure that the free radicals, which are produced in your body
during exercise and which cause muscle pain and fatigue,
are rendered harmless. Green tea stimulates GABA, a
neurotransmitter involved in relaxation and in the release of
growth hormones. With that, drinking green tea promotes recovery
of your muscles. Green tea also has a positive effect on the
energy levels due to the stimulating effects of caffeine and theine.

Adding amino acids

For accelerated muscle recovery and growth, amino acids can also be
added to intra-workout. We recommend 5 grams of BCAA in combination
with 10 grams of Pepto Pro (or whey hydrolysate). These two products provide
for high-quality amino acid profile with high biological value and the
recordability plus recording speed are very high.

In endurance sports, add

In training sessions where there is a lot of sweating, it is wise to
adding electrolytes. These are certain salts that the body takes in via
getting rid of sweat. A banana can be chosen during the
workout to eat. Another solution is to add a pinch of iodinated
sea salt combined with 50 ml coconut milk to be added to the IWO
drink. If you have the time and tools, then the juice of 2 stalks would be
celery are a very good choice to add.

Conclusion

All sports performance enhancing herbs have drawbacks if the dosage gets too high. In normal doses, there is no problem so drink this mix in moderation. A maximum of 1 per day increases sports performance and has a healthy effect on the body.

Fine workout!
