Dear Triptherapie team,

I’m in my thirties and live in the south of France. I’m getting in touch because I’d like to enquire about booking a private psilocybin truffle session.

I have been diagnosed with OCD, which is largely driven by underlying anxiety. I am currently being treated by Professor Luc Mallet of the Paris Brain Institute, one of France’s leading specialists in the field of OCD.

I am currently taking fluoxetine (an SSRI). I understand that I need to taper off this medication and ensure it has completely cleared from my system before a psilocybin session is possible. This process will be carried out under the supervision of my psychiatrist before I book a session with you.

I have a few questions:

  1. Do you have any experience with clients who specifically have OCD?
  2. How do you adjust the dosage for anxiety-related symptoms?
  3. What safety protocols are in place in the event of a difficult experience?
  4. What is the availability for private sessions over the coming months, and can you confirm the price?

I am looking for a professional, evidence-based setting and, if required, I can provide all the medical documentation or intake information you need.

Thank you very much in advance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much for your open and thoughtful message. I’m glad to hear that you are being treated by Professor Luc Mallet and that any tapering off of fluoxetine will take place under the supervision of your psychiatrist. When dealing with a condition such as OCS/OCD, particularly where anxiety is a major contributing factor, we believe a serious and therapeutically sound approach is essential.

We have considerable experience with clients for whom OCD, anxiety, depressive symptoms, trauma and rigid thought patterns play a major role. In this context, it is important to look not only at the diagnosis, but above all at the nature of the symptoms, the degree of compulsion to control, sensitivity to stress and stability whilst taking or tapering off medication. In practice, we find that psilocybin is often the first logical choice for OCD-related symptoms, partly because it can help to loosen rigid thought patterns and create greater cognitive flexibility. In the explanation of psilocybin or LSD for OCD We have already suggested that a legal LSD analogue is more likely to be considered as a second or subsequent step, for example when someone already has experience with psilocybin or when a longer and more analytical process seems more appropriate.

When it comes to fluoxetine and other SSRIs, the situation is more nuanced than simply “stop first, then plan”. More recent research suggests that combining them is not necessarily impossible, but that SSRIs can indeed diminish the depth and intensity of a psilocybin experience. Fluoxetine requires particular attention in this regard, as both the drug itself and its active metabolite can continue to have an effect for a long time. Consequently, “having stopped” does not automatically mean “ready for a session”. In addition to the drug’s own effects, we therefore also consider stabilisation following tapering and any withdrawal symptoms, as these can also disrupt a session. An ever-growing group often skips the tapering process and simply puts up with any inhibitory effects. See also: SSRIs and psilocybin options

For anxiety-related symptoms, we do not apply a standard dosage, but tailor it to the individual’s capacity, sensitivity, medication history and the aim of the session. In such cases, it is usually wiser to prioritise safety, therapeutic effectiveness and a sense of surrender rather than immediately seeking the maximum depth of experience. Sometimes this means a more cautious build-up of psilocybin. For example, we might administer half the dose in one session and then give a booster later during that same session. In other cases, if psilocybin proves unsuitable, a legal LSD analogue may be considered later as a second option. This is not usually the first choice for an initial session, but rather a possibility for a follow-up step or a different therapeutic approach.

Our safety protocols involve more than just supervision during the session itself. We begin with a comprehensive screening via the intake for trip therapy, during which we look at mental and physical health, medication, contraindications and whether now is the right time. This is followed by a personalised preparation plan, including an assessment of your mental state. During the session, the support is aimed not at suppressing difficult moments, but at helping you to regulate them safely. This professional presence is particularly important when dealing with anxiety and compulsive behaviour. Afterwards, we focus on integration, so that the insights gained can actually be incorporated into your daily life.

As far as experience with OCD is concerned, the reviews also reflect this well. In the review ‘Trip therapy for depression and OCD with Ronald’, a client describes how he felt a great deal of anxiety beforehand, but that, during the session, a sense of space actually emerged because he stopped fighting the experience. In another review by a woman in her 70s with OCD, childhood trauma and depression, the session was described as intense and emotional, with, according to the writer, clear improvement in the longer term. We also see a recurring pattern in other accounts: a process in which one’s relationship with anxiety, control and compulsion can shift noticeably.

Take a look at the reviews here relating to OCD:

As you live in France, you will need to come to the Netherlands for a legal session with us. Within the Netherlands, we can offer the sessions at one of our venues or at a venue you have hired.

Private sessions can therefore take place at a venue in the Netherlands. A private session at location in Schiedam, in a large room for one person, costs 1,250 euros, all-inclusive of guidance, food, drink and accommodation. A session at the venue The Den Bosch Bedding is currently an affordable option at 850 euros all-inclusive. In addition, sessions are available at accommodation of your choice, which you book elsewhere in the Netherlands; prices for these usually range between 750 and 950 euros, plus travel costs depending on the chosen counsellor and the distance involved. You can view the current options, availability and exact price per counsellor via the availability of private psychedelic sessions. Travel costs for a specific town or address can also be easily calculated in advance.

Given your situation, a thorough initial assessment, including your medical history, seems to be the right first step. If you bring along your diagnosis, medication history, current dose of fluoxetine and your tapering plan, we will be able to assess much more accurately whether a private psilocybin truffle session whether it is appropriate, within what timeframe this would be justifiable, and whether psilocybin is the most logical first step.

Yours sincerely,

Marcel
