There is a new scientific article that looks not so much at the effects of LSD itself, but at the experiences of caregivers of cancer patients participating in an LSD microdosing study.

In it, we discuss:

This research focuses on an often overlooked perspective within psychedelic research: that of loved ones. Caregivers play an important role in supporting patients with advanced cancer, both emotionally and practically. The study investigates how they experience the guidance of someone participating in an LSD microdosing trial.

The results show that the relationship between patient and caregiver is central. Many caregivers described how the treatment helped them experience more connection, openness, and meaningful conversations. Some indicated that the process offered hope and helped them live more in the moment, despite the serious illness.

In addition, challenges also emerged. Caregivers had to cope with uncertainty, stigma surrounding psychedelics, and the emotional burden of both the illness and the experimental nature of the treatment. Nevertheless, the experience was often viewed as valuable, precisely because of the strengthening of the mutual relationship.

It is important to note that this is not an efficacy study of LSD microdosing itself. The research does not draw firm conclusions regarding efficacy, but demonstrates how important the social context is in this type of treatment. The experience of the environment can play a major role in how a therapy is perceived and possibly also in the ultimate outcome.

In one sentence: this study shows that with LSD microdosing in the context of cancer care, the relationship between patient and caregiver is central, involving both emotional deepening and practical challenges.
